Testing iTerm

April 7 2007

In response to my previous post, several people have asked why I don’t use/didn’t mention iTerm (iTerm is an open source alternative to Apple’s own Terminal). The main reason is that I’ve previously heard lots of people moaning that iTerm was slow and crashed lots - and this was certainly the case the last time I tried it, as far as I remember. However, I’ve been told that the latest version is much improved and is at least at fast as Terminal.app, so I’m giving it a spin - I’ll let you know how I get on!

Oh, and it has tabs! :D

Update: So, I tried out iTerm for a while, but switched back after a week or two. It’s hard to say what wrong with it, but suffice to say I just didn’t get on with it. It displayed things differently to other terminal emulators I use (colours and symbols), and generally just didn’t… feel right. This was quite some time ago, so I’ve forgotten all of my reasons - sorry!
